On may 10, 1918 fire swept through the New York, New Haven,  Hartford Railroad on Meadow Street. Hoseman James Weldon 43 Years Old was struck in the head by falling debris and sustained a skull fracture and internal injuries. He succumbed to those injuries the next day. Several other firefighters received severe injuries.
